20/06/2009 In Lebanon, the meeting between Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah and the head of the Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt after three years of "rupture of relations" is believes to be the main headline… The lengthy meeting, that took the form of an in-depth review of the past stage and discussed the coming stage in Lebanon and the region, seemed to draw a roadmap for the upcoming phase that would be marked by the "wider reconciliation" and therefore was hailed by the Lebanese various groups and factions as a "first step." Jumblatt himself refused to comment on the meeting or give details about it but told Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar that the meeting was "good and frank." "I can only say that the meeting was good," Jumblatt said. "We spoke frankly and conducted a good review of issues," he explained. "Matters are delicate and I absolutely do not want to comment any further," the Progressive Socialist Party leader concluded. Earlier, well-informed sources told Al-Manar that the "reconciliation meeting" between Sayyed Nasrallah and Jumblatt was "the most significant step on the path to appeasement and to counter the repercussions of political events that hit Lebanon over the past four years." The sources pointed out that the talks paved the way for more reconciliation meetings "most significantly between Jumblatt and the head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun."For its part, Lebanese daily An-Nahar quoted senior sources in the PSP as saying the goal behind the meeting was to "follow up on attempts to ease tensions" in regions with mixed populations. The sources stressed that the meeting between Sayyed Nasrallah and Jumblatt does not represent a change in the political direction of either side. "Each team has its political status and alliances that will be preserved," the sources explained. "This however does not mean the rift will be renewed," they added.
