Yemen Talks Fail, Houthis Stage Sit-in against Government

Yemeni Talks between the government and Houthi Shias have "failed" after they rejected a proposed government of technocrats

Yemeni Talks between the government and Houthi Shias have "failed" after they rejected a proposed government of technocrats, the president's negotiating team said Sunday.

"Negotiations in Saada haHouthisve failed," the team's spokesman Abdulmalek al-Mikhlafi said. "It seems like the Huthis have intentions for a war," he said.

Houthis have staged a massive sit-in in Yemen demanding the government’s resignation and a greater share in power.

Protests gained momentum on Saturday and the Yemeni demonstrators said they would continue protests until their demands are met.

There has not yet been any response from Houthis in that regard.

The envoys of President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi had been holding talks with rebel commander Abdulmalik al-Huthi in Saada since Thursday in a bid to persuade him to abandon the protests organised by his supporters in a bid to oust the current government and reverse fuel price increases.
