Bassil from Iran: It’s Necessary to Confront Israel, Terrorism

Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed on the need to confront the Zionist entity and the Takfiri terrorism, during an official visit to Iran.

Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed on the need to confront the Zionist entity and the Takfiri terrorism, during an official visit to Iran.

Bassil met with several Iranian officials, including President Hasan Rouhani, Speaker Ali Larijani and Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

Rouhani and BassilA statement released by the Lebanese FM’s press office said on Sunday that Bassiol and Rouhani “stressed that it is necessary to confront Israel until all rights are fully restored and that Israel will not emerge victorious from this face-off.”

The two stressed the need to combat terrorism at military and intellectual levels, the statement added.

Bassil met Iranian Larijani in the presence of Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of the Iranian parliamentary committee for national security and foreign policy.

Earlier, senior Iranian official Ali Akbar Velayati expressed hope after meeting Bassil that Lebanon would be able to elect a president soon.

“[We hope] the right circumstances for the Lebanese people to conduct presidential elections will arise soon,” Velayati said.

He added that Iran and Lebanon share common views on the Syrian crisis and oppose any foreign intervention in the region.

Iran is aware that the Syrians’ resistance is supported by the Lebanese people, stated Velayati who served as Iran’s foreign minister from 1981 to 1997.
The Lebanese foreign minister said that Iran plays a “critical” role in the region.
