An administrative court in the capital Manama ruled on Tuesday that Al-Wefaq had “violated a law on associations,” AFP news agency quoted a court official in the Gulf island kingdom as saying.

Defence lawyer, Abdullah al-Shamlawi, told the Associated Press news agency that the verdict meant all of Al-Wefaq's activities would be frozen for three months.

For its part, the group denounced the move, considering it a “crazy adventure,” and stressing it is going on with demanding a democratic change in the country.

In a statement published on the group’s website, al-Wefaq said: “The autocratic rule which has been gripping the country with fire seeks to destroy the political and social components through people elimination, autocracy through formal institutions and retaliatory rules.”
