Syrian President Bashar Assad promulgated a law on Tuesday according to which anyone who enters Syria illegally will be jailed and fined, state-run news agency SANA reported.

“Anyone who enters the Syrian territories illegally will be jailed from one to five years,” the text read.

The person will be also fined of between five million and 10 million Syrian pounds ($25,000-$50,000/19,083-38,167 Euros), according to the law.

This legal step comes as the Syrian borders witness a daily infiltration of militants, smugglers and reporters since the beginning of the Syrian crisis.

The foreign militants and smugglers who infiltrated into Syria joined the militant groups in the Arab country and contributed to the severe crisis it has been suffering since mid-March 2011.

A number of reporters further entered Syria illegally to perform different tasks that contradict with the Syrian laws and interests.
