Sponsored by the commander-in-chief of the Iranian Army, Lieutenant General Ataollah Salehi and Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, the drills kicked off on Tuesday morning.

The exercise witnessed planting mines by a virtual enemy, before the Iranian patrol units discovered the mines and specified their locations.

The local-made mine-sweeping system then dismantled the mines by the help of helicopters.

By putting this system into service, the Islamic Republic is among few countries which are capable of dismantling mines in the sea.
