Iranian TV Reporter Killed on Air by Rebel Sniper in Damascus
Local Editor

Maya Nasser; Press TV correspondent martyred in SyriaIran’s Press TV declared its Damascus correspondent was killed Wednesday by a rebel sniper while reporting on bombings in the Syrian capital. Two car bombs struck the Syrian Army’s command headquarters, setting one of the buildings on fire.

Maya Nasser was killed while reporting from the scene, Press TV said. Hussein Murtada – Press TV’s Damascus bureau chief and head of the Arabic-language Al-Alam TV network in the country – was also reportedly injured in the attack.

The two were covering twin blasts in Damascus and the ensuing fighting.

“We hold Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, who provide weapons and militants to kill civilians, military personnel and journalists, responsible for killing Maya,” Press TV’s News Room Director Hamid Reza Emadi said.

“Press TV will pursue the matter of the murder of Maya and would not let those who killed the correspondent feel like they can kill the media people and get away with it,” he emphasized.

In recent months, Nasser reported from the frontlines of the Syrian conflict. His video reports from Aleppo city were a valuable source of on-the-ground information.

Born on July 30, 1979 in Syria, Maya Nasser studied political science at KUPLAN University, NY, US. He was fluent in Arabic and English and had worked in many countries including the USA, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Bahrain.

Nasser never hid his identity, and frequently debated political opponents on his Twitter account. Though he was threatened on the Web more than once, he was remembered as always being fearless about his work.

Al-Manar English Website expresses deep condolences to Press TV network and martyr Maya Nasser’s family, praying to Allah Almighty to rest his soul in peace and to grant fellow Hussein Murtada a speedy recovery.
