Berri, Jumlatt Reject March 14 Campaign against Resistance

March 14 continues war against Resistance as Speaker and PSP leader reject campaign as sectarian

One week ahead of the ‘awaited day’ on March 13 to commemorate the anniversary of March 14 by the remains of the so-called the March 14 forces, the campaign launched by these forces against the Resistance and its arms continued as Speaker Nabih Berri and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt undermined it, saying it has no prospect at all.

BERRI CRITICIZES…
While Hezbollah remained silent towards the unprecedented campaign against its arms, believed to be part of the “mobilization” plan adopted by the March 14 forces to “incite” people to take part in next Sunday’s demonstration, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri criticized again the campaign.

Speaking to Lebanese daily As-Safir, the Speaker said that the March 14 campaign against the Resistance’s arms has no political or national prospect. "A non-sectarian state would sanctify the resistance. But in Lebanon, the ugly sectarianism is controlling the stances and interests of some" parties, Berri said in reference to the March 14 forces.

Asked about the fate of national dialogue sessions amid the ongoing campaign, Berri said that there is no new dialogue in the future. "The defense strategy is summarized in the 'army-people-resistance' equation which was endorsed by the policy statement of Caretaker Premier Saad Hariri," the speaker stressed.

JUMBLATT: MARCH 14 INCITING STRIFE, HATRED AND SECTARIANISM
For his part, the head of the National Struggle Front MP Walid Jumblatt rejected the March 14 campaign against the Resistance’s arms and confirmed that the Progressive Socialist Party will not participate in Sunday’s expected rally.

Jumblatt, who used to be the “spiritual leader” of the March 14 celebrations since the creation of the mentioned bloc in 2005, criticized the logic of the remains of the collapsing political group. “We will not take part in the March 14 rally because we know that the people are responsible enough to refuse to participate in an occasion where speeches will be aimed at inciting strife, hatred and sectarianism,” he said in his weekly editorial to be published in the PSP-affiliated Al-Anbaa magazine.

GEMAYEL CONTINUES WAR
Meanwhile, the head of the Phalange party, former President Amin Gemayel, continued on behalf of the so-called March 14 forces, the campaign, portraying the Resistance’s arms as the sole problem in the country.

"We will stage a demonstration on Sunday and we say that no weapons or threats will frighten us as our faith is strong and our perseverance is stronger," the former President claimed during a press conference he held to urge the March 14 supporters to participate in March 13’s rally. "We will confront the approaching coup that is demonstrated by Hezbollah’s arms … We will never let the blood of the Cedar Revolution martyrs go in vain," he went on to say.

"The resistance cannot be real and nationalistic unless it cooperates with all sides and operates under the state's authority," Gemayel said.
