On Wednesday, demonstrators took to the streets in several towns and villages across the country, including the western village of Shahrakan and the northeastern islands of Sitra and Nabi Saleh, Press TV reported.

Protesters chanted slogans against the ruling Al Khalifa family, demanding the release of prisoners detained by regime forces during peaceful anti-government demonstrations.

Al-Khalifa security forces have also attacked protests in Shozan region and fired tear gas grenades on peaceful demonstrators.

The Wednesday protests were held a day after thousands of Bahrainis staged demonstrations across the country on May 1 to demand the reinstatement of the workers fired by the Manama regime.

May 1, known as Labor Day, is considered a public holiday in Bahrain, where activists say nine people have been killed by regime forces across the country since March 17, 2012.

The nation-wide peaceful anti-regime opposition hold King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa responsible for the death of the protesters during the popular uprising in the country.
