Panetta: US Strike on Iran Harder than Israeli Attack

US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has drawn up contingency plans for a potential attack on the Islamic Republic, saying that a US attack would be harder than an Israeli one.

Just two days afpanettater US President Barack Obma damped down talk of war against Iran, his Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has drawn up contingency plans for a potential attack on the Islamic Republic, saying that a US attack would be harder than an Israeli one.

"If they (Israelis) decided to do it, there's no question that it would have an impact, but I think it's also clear that if the United States did it, we would have a hell of a bigger impact," Panetta told the National Journal.

Asked if the Pentagon was drawing up contingency plans, he said: "Absolutely."

Obama on Tuesday said that Iran's nuclear program was not an immediate threat, arguing a "window" for diplomacy could forestall an Iranian bomb, while slamming Republican candidates for their hawkish statements demanding military action against the Islamic republic.
