Damascus University Student Fires at His Colleagues

“I feel lonely and a stranger in a strange place after life abandoned me. Death is easier to me. O Allah speed up my demise”

Two Damascus University students were martyred and three others were injured on Tuesday by gun shots fired by a student at the Medical Engineering Department in the university, Syria’s official news agency (SANA) reported.

Ammar Taysir Baloush, second-year student of Medical Engineering, had opened fire using a handgun during an exam for the students of his department killing Hussein Ghannam and wounding Sultan Radwan, George Farah, Pierre Lahham, and Khudir Khazem.

A medical source told SANA that Khazem had later succumbed to his wounds and passed away on Wednesday. Khazem was in a critical situation.

Two days before his death, Ghannam wrote on his page on Facebook that he feels lonely and a stranger in a strange place after life abandoned him. He then said: “So, death is easier to me. O Allah speed up my demise.”

Ghannam was laid to rest on Wednesday. He was escorted from Damascus Hospital to al-Sayyeda Zeinab Cemetery with huge participation of his teachers, friends, students and youth activists.

His father said that his son is the victim of conspiracy which targets the homeland and aims at sabotaging it and undermining its security. He called on the youths to be more aware and conscious of this conspiracy which has began through media fabrications and which led to terrorist criminal acts.

The father expressed desire that peace and security will return to the homeland and the youths will continue their normal life and fulfill their aspirations.
