Yemen Talks to Resume as National Delegation Meets GCC Chief

Yemen talks is to resume on Wednesday, hours after the National delegation met the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said "participants will meet... on Wednesday in a plenary session to follow up with the agreed agenda."

The negotiations, which began in the Kuwaiti capital on April 21, broke off on Sunday after the Saudi-backed exiled government delegation quit. Yemen Talks to Resume as National Delegation Meets GCC Chief

Earlier on Tuesday, the national delegation, which represents Ansarullah revolutionary movement and General People's Congress party (GPC), met Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani in Bayan Palace.

Zayani said the GCC is keen to help in the success of the UN-brokered talks, stressing on the importance of resuming direct talks.

He told Ansarullah's Mohammad Abdelsalam and GPC's Aref al-Zoka, that there is a 'historical chance' to end the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Zayani thanked the state of Kuwait for hosting the talks, calling on the two sides to take the opportunity and find a political settlement to the deadly crisis in Yemen.

Yemen has been since March 26, 2015 under brutal aggression by Saudi-led coalition.

Thousands have been martyred and injured in the attack, with the vast majority of them are civilians.

Riyadh launched the attack on Yemen in a bid to restore power to fugitive president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who is a close ally to Saudi Arabia.
