Syrian Army Advances towards Palmyra City (Updated)

Syrian army units managed on Tuesday to seize full control over Al-Hayel Mountain overlooking the southwestern part of Palmyra city, following clashes with the so-called ’Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) takfiri group.

Sources told Al-Manar TV that Tuesday's engagement left a large number of ISIL terrorists killed or wounded.

The Syrian army and allies also targeted the headquarters of ISIL commanders in the city of Palmyra.

The Syrian Air Force targeted convoys of vehicles for ISIL on the road linking Palmyra with al-Sukhneh, destroying dozens of vehicles and leaving many terrorists dead or injured.

Moreover, SANA stated that this latest achievement by the Syrian army paves the way for restoring security and stability to Palmyra city.

A military source pointed out that Syrian units also dismantled mines and explosive devices planted by ISIL terrorist in the place.

The Syrian Air Force also destroyed ISIL hotbeds, bases and vehicles in al-Qaryatain city in the southeastern countryside of the province.

Earlier in the day, the Syrian air force carried out several raids over ISIL assembly points in the environs of Palmyra, destroying its vehicles and fortifications and killing several militants.
