Rouhani: Iran Has Never Threatened Any Country’s Interests in Region

In a meeting with the Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Jaafari, Rouhani expressed pleasure with success of the Iraqi nation, government and army in the fight against terrorists in Iraq.

Iranian President Hasan Rouhani said on Wednesday that Tehran has never taken any action against any regional state and has always favored logic and rationality as well as enhancement of cooperation and securing the Islamic world and regional countries' interests.

In a meeting with the Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Jaafari, Rouhani expressed pleasure with success of the Iraqi nation, government and army in the fight against terrorists in Iraq, IRNA news agency reported.

“Iranian nation and government will be pleased more to see more security and friendship in Iraq,” Rouhani said.

Consolidation of national unity, territorial integrity and economic development of Iraq as the neighboring and friendly country is of significance for Iran, he said.

Describing recent moves by Saudi Arabia and execution of prominent cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr as provocative, Rouhani said that Iran's foreign policy is based on forming good ties with neighbors and strengthening regional stability and cooperation.

'Circumstances under which we need unity in the fight against terrorism more than ever, taking irrational and provocative decisions will certainly help escalate tensions and harm all regional states,' he said.

Iran is willing to narrow the gap in the Islamic world and boost solidarity and unity among the Muslims, the president stressed.

Jafari, for his part, stressed the need for development of bilateral ties, calling for the two countries' efforts to further bolster mutual cooperation in the region and world, IRNA said.
