Governor of Aden Killed in ISIL Attack

A car bomb claimed by ISIL terrorists killed the governor of Yemen’s second city Aden on Sunday.

A car bomb claimed by ISIL terrorists killed the governor of Yemen's second city Aden on Sunday.

Aden governor, HadiA statement posted on Twitter by the extremist group said it was behind a blast that hit the convoy of Jaafar Saad in the Tawahi neighborhood of the major port city, killing him and eight of his bodyguards.

Images circulated on social media after the attack showed a wrecked car on fire on a main road in the city. Some sources said the blast was caused by a rocket propelled grenade.

Saad was only recently appointed governor and was known to be close to ousted President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, who returned to Aden last month after several months in exile in Riyadh.

The latest attack came after the UN envoy to Yemen met Hadi in Aden on Saturday, in an effort to bring eight months of war to an end.
