Iranian Demonstrators Condemn US Plots, Regional Policies

IranA huge crowd of Iranians, mostly school and university students, taking part in rallies held Wednesday on the National Day of Fight against Global Arrogance, denounced the policies of the “Great Satan” and its regional allies in the Middle East, Tasnim news agency reported.

Hundreds of thousands of Iranians staged demonstrations this morning all over the country to express their opposition to the arrogant policies and attitudes of enemies, particularly the US.

In a statement released and read out at the end of nationwide rallies held in Iran to mark the 36th anniversary of US Embassy Takeover, demonstrators condemned Washington’s regional policies and stressed that the United States is still the “Great Satan”.

They referred to the terrorist group ISIL and the phenomenon of Takfiri (extremist) terrorism as the offspring of US hostile policies and plots in the region aimed at securing the Zionist and occupier regime of Israel.

They also condemned the slaughter of innocent Muslims in Yemen by the Saudi regime with US backing and the deadly silence of the international community.

Continuation of Al Saud’s heinous crimes in Yemen will further deepen Muslims hatred against Riyadh and lead to the decline of the Saudi regime, the statement added.

Participants in the Wednesday rallies also referred to Iran’s support for innocent Muslims in the world, particularly the people of Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Bahrain as a religious duty, and strongly denounced Israel’s desecration of al-Aqsa mosque.

The National Day of Fight against Global Arrogance has its roots in a movement by a group of Iranian students more than 30 years ago.

On November 4, 1979, and in less than a year after the victory of the Islamic Revolution that toppled a US-backed monarchy, Iranian university students that called themselves "students following the line of (the late) Imam (Khomeini)" seized the US embassy in Tehran, which had become a center of espionage and planning to overthrow the newly established Islamic system in Iran.

The students who seized the embassy later published documents proving that the compound was indeed engaged in plans and measures to overthrow the Islamic republic.

Every year on the 13th day of the Iranian month of Aban (November 4), the Iranian nation, particularly students, hold rallies across the country to mark the day.

In the capital city of Tehran, the rallies to mark the anniversary of the landmark move are held at the venue of the former US embassy, which is known by Iranians as the “Den of Espionage”.
