Body of Imam Al-Hasani Martyred in Hajj Stampede Returns Home

The body of Lebanese martyr Sayyed Haidar Al-Hasani who died during the September hajj stampede was returned to Beirut Monday afternoon.

The body of Lebanese martyr Sayyed Haidar Al-Hasani who died during the September hajj stampede was returned to Beirut Monday afternoon.

Sayyed HasaniRelatives, state and religious officials were present at the Beirut International Airport to receive the body Al-Hasani, an imam from the south Lebanon village of Markaba. The Lebanese Consul in Jeddah, Ziad Atallah, accompanied his eminence body.

Sayyed Haidar al-Hasani died along with more than 2,000 others during the stampede in the Saudi city of Mecca during the annual Islamic pilgrimage.

The imam was the only Lebanese national to die in the incident. He was identified after DNA tests were conducted more than a month after his death.

His body was taken to his village for prayers, and will then be flown to Najaf in Iraq where he will be buried at the Imam Ali Islamic shrine "as he willed for," according to family members.
