Lebanon’s Prime Minister Tammam Salam said Saturday that he will reconvene the Cabinet after he returns from New York where he will attend the 70th session of the UN General Assembly.

cabinet session"The Cabinet is not paralyzed," Salam told reporters as he was leaving Ain al-Tineh after a meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri, the Daily Star reported.

The opening of the 70th session took place on Sept. 15 and Salam will address the General Assembly on Sept. 26.

His speech is expected to include an overview of Lebanon’s current domestic situation. He will reportedly remain in New York until Sept. 30.

The PM said that "the ongoing coordination (with Berri) is one of the factors that is helping us overcome crises."

"Our country is passing through difficulties that require relentless follow-up." Salam said that the garbage crisis is a top priority issue, noting that the plan of Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayeb is being closely followed.

He said he hoped that the implementation of the plan would "defuse" tension in streets after it ignited a series of anti-government protests organized by the “You Stink” movements and other civil society groups during which protesters denounced corruption in the public administration and the political class.
