Lebanese Environment Minister Quits Trash Committee

Lebanese Environment Minister, Mohammad Mashnouk, on Monday withdrew from the Ministerial Committee tasked to find a solution the mounting waste crisis.

Lebanese Environment Minister, Mohammad Mashnouk, on Monday withdrew from the Ministerial Committee tasked to find a solution the mounting waste crisis.

Lebanese environment minister Mohamamd Mashnouk“I have notified the Prime Minister about my decision to withdraw from the Ministerial Committee tasked to resolve the solid waste crisis," Minister Mashnouk said in a statement on Monday.

Mashnouk said the move comes in light of “the most recent developments, especially concerning the solid waste crisis talks, and emanating from my firm belief in the necessity of coming forward with solutions to the deteriorating waste crisis after the closure of Naameh landfill, as well as in light of failure to complete studies on the necessary tenders and the political forces' failure to ensure healthy waste dumps.”

He called on Prime Minister, Tammam Salam, to task another minister with this file, National News Agency (NNA) reported.
"I have wished of the Prime Minister to appoint a suitable alternative to follow up on the waste dossier after placing all the Environment Ministry's help in the service of this issue," the Lebanese minister said.
