Zarif met on Monday Iraqi president Fuad Masum who called for cooperation among Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and the Persian Gulf states specially Saudi Arabia saying it will be very important to establish peace and stability in the region.

Masum welcomed finalization of the nuclear agreement between Iran and group 5+1 and said the deal will bring about stability and tranquility in the region and its benefits will not only reach Iran but all regional states.

"In the wake of the nuclear agreement, conditions of the region have changed, and there is no longer a fabricated fear or threat of atomic bomb. Therefore, it is possible to cooperate for eradication of terrorism specially Daesh," he said.

Daesh is the Arabic acronym for the so-called 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant' (ISIL) takfiri group.

Zarif said the agreement has been the output of Iran's novel outlook which could be applied to the settlement of regional problems as well.

"I chose my first visit after the nuclear agreement to the neighboring and regional countries. My message is that we and regional states can promote dialog and cooperation to remove misunderstandings," he said.

Zarif arrived in Iraq late on Sunday after visiting Kuwait and Qatar. In Iraq, he started his visit with meeting Iraqi clerics in religious cities of Karbal and Najaf.

Following the joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim Jaafari, Zarif met President Fuad Masum, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, and Parliament Speaker.
