Syrian Army Advances in Palmyra, ISIL Militants Flee

Units of the Syrian army, backed by popular committees, advanced towards the city of Palmyra in central Syria, sources told al-Manar.

The Syrian army captured parts of western mountains in the city, amid collapse in the ranks of the Takfiri group, ISIL (so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Levant), who are fleeing amid the progress of the army, the sources said.

Syrian army advances in PalmyraA number of terrorists were killed as the government forces advanced, the sources noted, adding that the army units destroyed two vehicles for the militants.

In May 21, ISIL terrorists overran Palmyra, which is an ancient city on the list of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s World Heritage sites and is situated about 215 kilometers northeast of the Syrian capital, Damascus.
