Geneva Talks on Yemen Continue, Parties Agree on Humanitarian Truce

The indirect peace talks between the two Yemeni delegations in Geneva continued on Thursday as a humanitarian truce was reached and scheduled to be announced in the coming hours.

GenevaThe indirect peace talks between the two Yemeni delegations in the Swiss capital of Geneva continued on Thursday as a humanitarian truce was reached and scheduled to be announced in the coming hours.

UN envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmad, kept holding separate meetings with the representatives of various Yemeni factions and with those of Saudi-backed fugitive president Abedrabbu Mansour Hadi.

UN spokesman Ahmad Fawzi said that all the parties agreed, with the advent of the Holy month of Ramadan, on a humanitarian ceasefire which was scheduled to be enforced in the coming hours.

Yemen has been since March 26 under brutal aggression by Saudi-led coalition. Thousands have been martyred and injured in the attack, with the vast majority of them are civilians.

Riyadh launched the attack on Yemen in a bid to restore power to Yemen’s fugitive president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi who is a close ally to Saudi Arabia.
