Future Party Justifies Hariri Absence: Fear of Assassination

The Future Party has begun justifying the absence of its leader and former Prime Minister Saad Hariri for months now. Source say France, U.S., U.N. warned him of assasination plot.

The Future Party has begun justifying the absence of its leader and former Prime Minister Saad Hariri for months now.

Hariri will not return to Beirut any time soon, as French and U.S. officials warned him that an assassination plot is being planned against him, Naharnet website quoted a Future party source as saying.

“French President Nicolas Sarkozy and high-ranking U.S. and U.N. officials have warned him about the plot,” the source said in justification of Hariri’s absence from Lebanon and from the political scene.

Knowing that former PM Hariri has not taken any political stance, or made any televised statement or appearance since his government was toppled in January, the Future party source reassured that “Hariri is following the situation in Lebanon minute by minute and is meeting with all March 14 parties in the French capital to coordinate with them the steps that the opposition would take to confront the next stage.”

Saad Hariri who has spent most of his tenure outside Lebanon, traveled after his government toppled six months ago, and his country of residence is unconfirmed yet.

After handing the STL indictment to the Lebanese authorities, and leaking some of the names accused, Hariri’s media bureau issued a statement commenting on the development.
