The explosions occurred during prayers near two churches in the city's Youhanabad area, home to more than 100,000 minority Christians, police spokeswoman Nabeela Ghazanfar told AFP. "A state of emergency has been imposed in all the hospitals," she said.

Market bomb kills two in Pakistan's Karachi
   

At least two people were killed and 12 others wounded when a bomb went off in a crowded marketplace in Pakistan's largest city of Karachi, police said on Sunday.

The bomb was detonated remotely Saturday night in the Orangi town neighborhood of the city, Ali Asif, a senior police official told AFP.

"The bomb was planted in a cement block. Those killed and wounded were civilians, the injured included two children," he said, adding that neither the target was not clear and police did not yet have suspects.

The blast destroyed two motorcycles and damaged "several nearby shops" Asif added.

Muhammad Abid, a bomb disposal expert confirmed the attack and told AFP that more than a kilogram of explosives was used.

No militant group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
