Baghdad Attacks Claim 9 Civilians, Wound 37

Nine people were killed and 37 others wounded in separate incidents on Tuesday in Baghdad.

In southern Baghdad, three people were killed and 11 others injured when a car bomb exploded at a market place in al-Mahmoudiya district.

Another person was killed and seven others wounded in an improvised device attack earlier in the day in the same area according to the police source.

In al-Mada’in area, an improvised explosive device exploded leaving two people dead and seven others wounded.

Moreover, three members of the Popular Forces armed group were killed and ten others wounded when an explosion targeted their patrol in al-Tarmia area in northern Baghdad.

Another two people were wounded in a car bomb explosion in al-Haswa area located 35 km (22 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

30 militants of the so-called 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant' (ISIL) takfiri group were allegedly killed when U.S.-led international coalition’s air forces targeted an ISIL convoy near al-Sultan Abdullah village in the northern province of Ninawah, a Peshmerga source said.

Last summer, ISIL occupied large swathes of land in Iraq and Syria, killing thousands in the process. It later declared the captured territories to be part of a self-declared caliphate.

Since the group captured the northern Iraqi province of Mosul in June 2014, a U.S.-led coalition carried out numerous airstrikes against ISIS targets in both Iraq and Syria.
