Egypt’s Sisi Meets PA President Abbas in Cairo

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday discussed Arab efforts to establish a Palestinian state with Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas who is on a visit to Cairo.

Abbas, SisiThe Egyptian Presidency said in a statement that al-Sisi and Abbas discussed these efforts, especially after the United Nations Security Council had turned down a Palestinian draft resolution calling for setting a deadline for ending Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

It added that the two leaders also discussed a Palestinian application for joining the International Criminal Court, a move that has angered both Israel and the U.S. administration.

Abbas signed the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court on December 31, 2014, soon after the Security Council rejected the Palestinian draft resolution.

Abbas also signed 18 international agreements and treaties.
