Among the wounded was Ibb governor Yahya al-Aryani, who was attending the Houthis' commemoration of the Prophet Mohammed's birthday, a medic said.

Security sources said another bomb was discovered at the entrance to the event's venue.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemen branch of the Takfiri organization, had pledged to fight Ansarullah revolutionaries who have driven al-Qaeda militants out of many areas in the country, including Ibb.

The revolutionaries who are also known as Houtis also played a major role in the ouster of the country’s longtime dictator Saleh in 2012.

AQAP military chief Qassem al-Rimi vowed in November to carry out fierce attacks against the Houthis.
