Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari underscored the country's special and influential regional and international status, and said Iran enjoys a superior geopolitical role in the region.

"Sea plays a strategic role in governments' policy-makings and making use of the sea has a key role in exercising nations' power and will," Sayyari said, addressing Iranian university students in the Northern province of Mazandaran on Saturday morning.

Noting that Iran's enjoys a special position in the world, he said, "Iran plays a superior role in the region geopolitically."

Sayyari also lauded the Iranian Navy for enhancing the country's power and might, according to Fars news agency.

In relevant remarks last month, Sayyari described Naval might and power as well as regional security as highly important issues, and said, "We are ready to establish security in the region for trade and exploiting resources and protecting the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the world."
