Palestinians in Lebanon Declare Day of Mourning

Palestinian camps across Lebanon declared Monday a day of mourning, as families of 10 people martyred during “Return to Palestine Marches” prepared to bury their dead.

Palestinian camps across Lebanon declared Monday a day of mourning, as families of 10 people martyred during “Return to Palestine Marches” prepared to bury their dead.

"Today is a day of general strikes in the camps in mourning for the victims who were killed by the enemy," Fatah commander in Lebanon Munir Maqdah, who is based in the refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh, told AFP news agency.

Funerals will be held Monday in the Palestinian refugee camps of al-Bass, Burj al-Shemali, Mieh Mieh and Ain al-Hilweh, all located in south Lebanon.
Ten people were martyred in the Lebanese southern town of Maroun Ras on Sunday marches when Israeli occupation forces fired protesters commemorating the Nakba day at the border which have kept them apart from their occupied land.

More than 100 more were wounded when the crowd of thousands of refugees came under fire.

Maqdah said talks were underway for a "Martyrs' Friday" to honor the victims.
"This will not end here," he said. "We may hold a 'Martyrs' Friday' but what the program will entail has not been finalized and we are still holding talks with our comrades here and abroad."

The Nakba day marks the Israeli occupation to Palestine in 1948 when Palestinians were expelled by the Zionists from their land.

The Israeli military said Monday that Israel's frontiers were quiet, while AFP reported that Israeli planes, which regularly conduct flights over south Lebanon, were circling overhead morning.
