The Interior and Municipalities Ministry denied on Thursday aInterior Ministryllegations that a female Arab national was arrested by unofficial security personnel and jailed underground at Rafik Hariri International Airport.

Those claims came in an article that was published in "Sharq Al- Awsat - Middle East daily" back on the 26th of March, 2014.

A statement issued by the Interior Ministry made clear that Interior Minister, Nouhad Mashnouk, had personally contacted head of the airport security, Brigadier Jean Talouzian, to follow up on the matter.

The Minister had also contacted the writer of the article and consequently asked him to provide him with the full identity details of the allegedly imprisoned Arab women, so as to follow up on her case.

"The writer of the article insisted to keep the identity of the Arab woman anonymous -- upon her request -- a thing which prompted Mashnouk to decide that the article was not the right place to tackle such a vague matter," a statement by the Interior Ministry read.

Subsequently, the Minister requested immediate investigations to be launched by the Internal Security Forces, General Security, and Airport Security into the matter.

The Minister insisted that investigations be swiftly held to unveil the real story behind said claims.

"So far, investigations have revealed that the article is very far from the truth," the statement added.
