UAE Summons Iraq Envoy on KSA Terror Charges, Baghdad Says Can Provide Evidences

The UAE has summoned Iraq’s ambassador on Wednesday to protest accusations by Baghdad that KSA has been supporting terrorism on its soil, shortly after Iraqi officials said it can provide evidences concerning this issue.

Emirati State Minister for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash handed ambassador Mowafak Mahdi Abboud a memorandum protesting Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's  accusations that Saudi Arabia supports terrorism, the official WAM news agency said.General Qassem Atta

"Such remarks are false and not based on a proper assessment of the situation in the region concerning terrorism, especially as Saudi Arabia plays a significant role in combating all forms of terrorism," said Gargash.

In an interview aired on Saturday, Maliki charged that Saudi Arabia and neighboring Qatar were supporting militant groups in Iraq and across the Middle East as well as terrorism worldwide.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, a the head of the international counter-terrorism conference’s preparatory committee, General Qassem Atta,said Iraq will present evidence that "certain countries" support terrorism on its soil.

Speaking during a press briefing in conference, Atta said: “Iraq will present evidence [of countries supporting terrorism] to conference participants, with lawsuits being a possibility.”

"Iraq will present a proposal to Interpol to activate arrest warrants against certain wanted figures," said Atta, who is also a top Iraqi intelligence official.

He said the secretary-general of Interpol had agreed to hear the proposal.
Wednesday's anti-terrorism conference was attended by several Arab and foreign countries.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar, however, did not send representatives to the event – despite having been formally invited.
