Syrian deputy foreign minister, Faisal Mikdad, confirmed on Friday that the Syrian government is to take part in the second round of Geneva Talks which is due to  start on February 10.

"It has been decided that the delegation of the Syrian republic will take part in the second round of negotiations in Geneva," state news agency SANA quoted Mikdad as saying.Mikdad

"The Syrian delegation wishes to pursue the efforts it deployed during the first round in Geneva, and insists that the discussions focus on all clauses in the Geneva I communique, beginning with the first clause," he said.

The Syrian diplomat meanwhile stressed that the second round of talks must focus on terrorism in the crisis-hit country.

"A return to security and stability in Syria means that halting terrorism and violence must be discussed, as envisioned in the Geneva I communique," Mikdad said referring to a meeting by world powers in 2012.

Ten days of talks in Switzerland last month between government and opposition delegations yielded no tangible results, despite persistent pressure from UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, and cosponsors Russia and the United States.
