Saudi JetA Saudi Arabian Airlines jet made an emergency landing in Muslim holy city Medina in the west of the kingdom on Sunday, injuring 29 Iranian pilgrims.

The Saudia aircraft was traveling from Mashhad with 315 passengers on board, General Authority of Civil Aviation spokesman Khalid al-Khaybari said.
12 of the 29 injured people were taken to hospital while the rest were treated at the airport's medical center, he added.

The rest were treated at the airport, which has been closed for 24 hours for work on the runway.

Footage posted online showed a plane landing apparently without its rear landing gear down and leaving a trail of flame along the runway.

The leased Boeing 767 was being used for flights for pilgrims, the airline said, adding that it was carrying 299 passengers and 16 crew.

Khaybari said in a statement that the rear right-side landing gear failed to drop, forcing the captain to make the emergency landing.
