GCC Decides Unity of Military Command, Hails Iran

The Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation State Council states approved, during their summit in Kuwait, a unified military command for the council.

The closing statement of the thirty-fourth summit mentioned that in order to sustain security and stability as well as social safety, the GCC states decided to form a unified military command.

Politically, the GCC member states hailed the Saudi initiative which calls on conducting a number of reforms in the UN Security Council in order to "enable it to carry out its duties in intensifying the international security and peace."

The Gulf states hailed Iran's "new orientation" in recent nuclear talks.

The monarchies said they "welcome the new orientation by the Iranian leadership towards the Gulf Cooperation Council and hope it will be followed by concrete measures that would positively impact regional peace."

On Syria: Condemning Regime, Calling on Withdrawal of "Foreign Troops"

The GCC condemned what they called "the continued genocide that Assad's regime is committing against the Syrian people using heavy and chemical weapons," "calling also for the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Syria."

The GCC summit further welcomed Kuwait's announcement of hosting the second donors conference, in the beginning of 2014.
