ISIL Terrorists Exhume Sufi Shrines in Aleppo

Terrorists of the so-called “Islamic State in Iraq and Levant” were shown in a videotape exhuming and sabotaging Sufi tombs and shrines in al-Bab city in the countryside of Aleppo.

The footage, which was posted on the internet and officially claimed by the ISIL, showed how members of the al-Qaeda affiliated group removing and destroying more than 7 Sufi shrines, mostly in al-Bab city, during October, claiming that they contradict the principles of Islam.

The terrorists seemed to be keen to completely destroy the contents of the Sufi sites, and dig up the tombs and level them with the ground so as to efface all their features.

These historical shrines, which are highly valued by the Syrian people and enjoy a great position in their hearts, included those of Skeikh Aqil, Sheikh Ajjan al-Hadid, Sheikh Abdullah, Sheikh Mohammad Na'ssan and Sheikh al-Badawi.

Terrorists have targeted Islamic and Christian places of worship and shrines of Companions of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), in a series of systematic attacks that included destroying the shrine of Companion Hujr Bin Odai al-Kindi few months ago in Adra in Damascus Countryside.

The Shrine of al-Sayyeda Zainab in Damascus Countryside has been repeatedly targeted by mortar shells, while a number of churches in Damascus and Aleppo were similarly attacked.
