Syrian Army Engages in Fierce Clashes with Militants, Saudi ISIL Emir Killed

Violent clashes continued between Syrian army units and the opposition armed groups in a number of rural areas of Damascus Wednesday.

The fiercest battles focused on the checkpoint near Tameco Pharmaceuticals in Mleha area, located on the outskirts of Jaramana city which was exposed to mortar shells by militants and left several killed and injured.

In Latakia northern countryside, army units attacked armed groups, some of them were of Arab nationalities, during a military operation in the village of Al-Kabir.

In Homs, the Syrian army engaged with the gunmen while they were sneaking into the village of Sadad, inflicting them heavy losses.

In the meantime, al-Qaeda-affiliated the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) terrorist group announced the killing of one of its Emirs in al-Raqqa province.

The opposition Facebook pages confirmed the death of the Saudi Abdullah Ibrahim, nicknamed "Abu Talha", one of ISIL Emirs, during clashes with the Syrian army in Raqqa.

The Syrian national military launched a wide-scale military operation in May 2013 in the country's main provinces to restore security and release citizens from terrorist threats.

Syria was hit by a violent unrest since mid-March 2011, where the Syrian government accuses foreign actors, mainly the Saudi Arabia and Turkey, of orchestrating the conflict by supporting the militant opposition groups with arms and money.
