Army in SinaiMilitants staged Friday multiple attacks against checkpoints of  the security forces in Sinai and left at least three soldiers killed and two  others wounded.

One soldier was killed when the militants fired on an army checkpoint near the north Sinai village of al-Gura and two others were wounded, medical sources said.

"Militants attacked a police base with rockets and targeted military intelligence headquarters in the border town of Rafa," security sources said.

"Militants were attacking army and police checkpoints in several towns in north Sinai," the  security sources added.

Two cops were also killed in al-Arish city, north of Sinai.

As the Egyptian army deposed President Mohammad Mursi, militants in Sinai threatened of attacking the Egyptian troops in retaliation.

The Egyptian authorities, in turn, announced closing the border crossing with Gaza indefinitely.

For his part, the army announced that it was "on alert" in the south Sinai and Suez, but not yet in a state of emergency.

Military reinforcements have been in the Sinai to support the deployed troops since the assault, according to media reports.

Last August, 16 Egyptian soldiers were killed in an attack by gunmen at a Rafah military outpost.

Seven Egyptian soldiers were further kidnapped in Sinai in May, yet they were later released after military and political efforts were exerted to set them free.
