19/03/2009 Chairman of the Palestinian National Resistance Movement (HAMAS) politburo Khaled Meshaal discussed Wednesday with a European delegation comprising MPs and figures from Greece and Italy the latest developments on the Palestinian situation. "The visit of the European delegation is an important step in the direction of the European openness…. The delegation is very interested in supporting the Palestinian people and this was embodied by what has been proposed by the MPs during the talks," Sami Khater, member of Hamas politburo said in a joint press conference with the European delegation. Khater underlined Hamas commitment to make the Palestinian national dialogue a success, reach an accord among all Palestinian factions and work with utmost flexibility to realize the Palestinian reconciliation. For his part, Chairman of the Greek delegation and Head of Greece branch for the European Campaign to end the blockade on Gaza Georgios Anastasopoulous expressed his country and Europe's solidarity with the Palestinians, adding that their visit comes in the framework of inspecting the latest developments of the inter-Palestinian situation. He called for protecting the Palestinian people who face the inhuman ugliest practices by the Israeli occupation forces; underlining the importance of respecting the Palestinian people's will to choose their representatives. Former Senator at the Italian Parliament Fernando Rossi said that many counties have recognized that it is impossible to deal with the Palestinian situation without Hamas. He called for an immediate reconstruction of Gaza and lifting the unfair siege imposed on the Strip. The European delegation also met Secretary General of Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine 'General Command' Ahmad Gibril who expressed his appreciation for the Greek people in particular and the European people in General for their solidarity with the Palestinians during the Israeli aggression on Gaza, pointing out that the initiatives for lifting the siege on Gaza indicate the authenticity and the awareness with regard to the Palestinian cause. For his part, the Chairman of Greek delegation in the European campaign for ending the siege on Gaza Georgios Anastopoulos voiced his solidarity with the Palestinian people and the support of the Greek people to the Palestinian cause
