06/05/2008 An all type informer. This is the real Walid Jumblatt as the former head of the French Intelligence bureau, Yves Bonnet, sees him. In his latest book published recently in Paris, Bonnet reveals a list of Jumblatt's links with foreign intelligence services. In page 90 of his book "Lebanon – Hostages of a lie", bonnet unveils Jumblatt's 'spying favor' to French Intel in 1983, which led on November 13, to a French air raid on a post near the city of Baalbek. According to the author, Jumblatt had told the French that 'Shiite fighters' were gathering at the Sheikh Abdullah barrack and that they were the same people who carried out the attack against French paratroopers. He told the French that the group comprised members of Iran's Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah. The former French intelligence chief insisted on describing Jumblatt as an all type informer. He said that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) does acknowledge Jumblatt's 'favors' to it. Bonnet pointed to what Gordon Thomas had revealed in his book "America's Ultra-Secret Weapons" that the CIA had succeeded in the early 80's in recruiting Jumblatt. He added that the Progressive Socialist Party leader had in fact contributed in spying operations on foreign embassies in Beirut. Thomas, who is the author of more than 30 books on CIA and Mossad of which more than 45 million copies have been sold, says that the information provided to the CIA by Jumblatt on the Syrians and Hezbollah had been overwhelming.
