05/05/2008 Walid Jumblatt stands behind the assassination of Lebanese journalist Samir Kassir. This is what a source in the International Independent Investigation Commission (IIIC) into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri told Kuwaiti daily Al-Diwan. The source noted that the former head of the commission Serge Brammertz has reached evidence as well as witnesses proving that the head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt stands behind Kassir's assassination. The source added that Brammertz had interrogated Hisham Nassereddine, Rami Rayyes and Nasser Masri who are all officials in the PSP security body. According to the Kuwaiti daily report, those interrogations came after (N. N. Jumblatt), Noura Jumblatt's son, submitted his testimony to the commission in the summer of 2007. The source said the (N.N. Jumblatt) quoted in his testimony some officials in MP Jumblatt's security body as saying that the PSP chief had ordered the assassination of Kassir who was at the time under his protection, because he discovered a love affair between Kassir and "a woman very close to MP Jumblatt." The report also said that the woman, who was with Kassir when his car exploded, was wounded and taken to the American University Hospital (AUH) and then to France to keep her relation with Kassir away from the press. The woman didn't wish to return to Lebanon after she recovered and stayed in Paris where Brammertz interrogated her. Worth mentioning that a member of Jumblatt's security force handed Kassir his car on the morning of his assassination.
