Lebanon Condemns Killing of Hezbollah Leader Moghniyeh

13/02/2008 It was not a regular day in Tyre, south of Lebanon, on Wednesday. General mourning prevailed as the martyrdom of Hezbollah top commander Imad Moghniyeh was announced. In the martyr’s hometown, Teir Debba, residents gathered in the public square, mourning and denouncing the leader’s assassination. Verses of the holy Koran were heard from the mosques of Tyre as black flags covered the whole region.
 
Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah condemned the assassination, saying that “with the martyrdom of the great resistance fighter Hajj Imad Moghniyeh, the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon has lost a basic element and a prominent figure. This path, which brought up senior martyrs like Sayyed Abbas (Moussawi) and Sheikh Ragheb (Harb), will stay honoured even in the most severe, challenging and painful moments.” Sayyed Fadlallah added that after this great loss, “we are longing for all the resistance’s battlefields against the occupation to be more determined to confront the enemy and more steadfast in front of the challenges.”
 
The Amal Movement issued a statement condemning “the coward crime that led to the martyrdom of one of the first resistance fighters against the Israeli aggression and occupation, leader Hajj Imad Moghniyeh.” The statement added, “The Amal Movement offers sincere condolences to Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah and to brothers of arms in Hezbollah and the Islamic resistance, as it announces the martyrdom of this outstanding leader (Mujahid) who was one of the founders of the resistance against the Israeli occupation in the south of Lebanon and one of the makers of the liberation and victory achieved by the resistance of our people against the occupation during the liberation war and the legendary confrontation of Israeli wars against Lebanon, the last of which was the July aggression in 2006.”
 
Deputy Head of the Higher Muslim Shiite Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan offered his condolences to the Islamic and Arab Worlds for the heroic martyr and great fighter adding that the nation that gives birth to Imad Moghniyeh, will give birth to many like him.
 
For his part, prominent Muslim scholar Sheikh Afif Nabulsi said that the martyrdom of Hajj Imad Moghniyeh is a great loss “but it gives resistance fighters (Mujahedeen) great momentum to continue the path of Jihad and allows them to put up with this ordeal.
 
The Muslim Scholars’ Association offered its condolences and called on the Lebanese to be aware of the Israeli message at this particular timing.
 
The head of the unconstitutional government Fouad Saniora offered his condolences to Hezbollah’s leadership and the martyr’s family.
 
The head of the Future parliamentary bloc MP Saad Hariri also offered his condolences to Hezbollah’s leadership and Sayyed Nasrallah, and in a statement Hariri denounced the assassination calling for drawing out conclusions of the challenges Lebanon is facing at this stage.
 
Former Prime Minister Salim Hoss offered his condolences to Sayyed Nasrallah, saying in a statement, “the destiny of great men is to sacrifice for the sake of the cause they have devoted themselves to, and the criminal hands that assassinated the martyr would not be able to harm the willpower of the resistance and the determination to confront the Zionist project that is backed by the US that claims to adhere to freedom, justice and human rights.”
 
Moreover, Former Premier Omar Karami issued a statement denouncing the “coward terror assassination,” saying that “the Zionist criminal hands have assassinated the great leader martyr Imad Moghniyeh.”
 
The Socialist Nationalist Syrian Party condemned the assassination, saying that this crime comes in the course of the continuous Israeli aggression against the resistance movements in the nation.
 
The head of the Communist Party Khaled Hdede called on all the Lebanese parties, regardless of their confessions and affiliations, to be aware of the seriousness of this targeting that comes on the eve of third anniversary of martyr Rafiq Hariri’s assassination.
 
Ba’ath Party top official in Beirut former minister Fayez Shokor offered his condolences to Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah and the lslamic Resistance leadership. 
 
The political office of the Islamic Jama’a movement also denounced the assassination saying that it sympathizes with Hezbollah its ordeal.

The pattern of killing of Rafiq Hariri matches with the present one. So whoever the criminals were involved then are the same. Among the Lebanese, Sa'ad Hiriri collaborated with zionists then, he might have been involved with this ruthless murder as well.
