Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said that "the Resistance's arms are not a subject of discussion neither by the government nor by the national dialogue table; because what is being discussed is the defensive strategy, and when the strategy is discussed, things related to it follow." Speaking to Al-Thabat daily, Sheikh Qassem emphasized that nothing protects Lebanon from Israeli aggressions, pointing out that Resolution 1701 was the result of Hezbollah's steadfastness in its confrontation with Israel. His eminence stressed that Hezbollah was a forerunner in the founding of the relationship between Arab nationalists and Islam, thus opening the field for addressing issues that have existed between the Islamics and Arab nationalists. "After the assassination of PM Rafiq Hariri, the Sunni-Shiite strife emerged as a central headline, and a huge provocation was exerted, but we have always called for a halt of that matter and took a number of steps to stop it. We did many sacrifices and managed to reach a national unity government that comforted everyone and established stability," Sheikh Qassem said. "Today, we stand before a positive sight in Lebanon, and at this pace we call for inter-Arab reconciliations," his eminence pointed out. "We were happy to see a Saudi-Syrian rapprochement, because that spares us a great deal and is a slap to the faces of Israel and America." Sheikh Qassem concluded by calling for positive relations between Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey and the Arab and Islamic countries, calling for the search for a political solution to the problem in Yemen, and for dialogue there.
